I want to open up the “Believing is Seeing” teaching to everyone. We’ve been playing with it in the RKW Workshop, and maybe learned something, so here begins the latest version (which is not what’s on the RKW site). Here we go…:

Introduction

What Is is inconceivable. What Is is inexpressible. What Is is only experienceable. And even simple experiences cannot be explained. Experiences are not concepts. Try to explain the difference between the taste of vanilla, chocolate and strawberry! Tastes cannot be explained. Tastes cannot be revealed. They are experiences.
Nothing in this collection of notes about It is true. That would be impossible. Saying anything even meaningful about something that is infinite in every possible meaning of the word, space, time, dimensionality,… is clearly impossible.
None-the-less, my nerd side needs to try to comprehend the incomprehensible, and these notes are my current best shot at telling myself stories about the Infinite that are at least somewhat graspable to me. Writing down my current best understanding is part of my process of spiritual growth. Every time I read through these notes I clarify a point or two, or get a whole new deeper understanding of some concept. This is one of the ways in which I grow spiritually.
When reading these notes keep in mind that no one is asking you to believe them. They’re not true. They’re simply a work in progress_my current best concepts of the inconceivable. Just read carefully enough to be sure you understand what they are saying.

I. Principles

1. All there is is God — Consciousness.

First let us comment on the equation of God and Consciousness. If we accept that God is spiritual, we have to accept that God is Consciousness. There are only three states of existence: material, mental and spiritual, and, if we look at ourselves, the only thing not mental or material in us is our consciousness itself, our consciousness of our mental and material aspects. So spiritual and consciousness are really synonyms.
There is no way to prove the assertion that all there is is consciousness, which is also the foundation of a number of spiritual paths, but we can at least show you what it means:
Suppose you’re asleep, dreaming that you are sitting at a table with some friends at a Starbucks. You are identified with the you in your dream—she or he is the only you there is, as far as he or she knows. Now that you, the table, the friends, the Starbucks, and the city, country, world and universe the dream is taking place in, are all being created by your subconscious mind, and the substance of everything in the dream universe is whatever dreams are made out of: consciousness—imagination. Even the time in which the dream experience is happening is dream time—imagined time. The experiences in the dream might seem to last for an hour or two, but the dream itself, had it been measured by an EKG on your sleeping brain, would only have lasted for a second or two. So all there is in the you in your dream, in the experiences of that you, and in the dream itself, is consciousness. The dream was entirely an expression of your subconscious.
In the same way the you in “this world,” the human experience in “this world,,” “this world” itself, and the substance of everything in “this world,” is nothing more than an expression of and within Consciousness, in which you are identified with the ”you” in the expression.
We understand that this is contrary to everything that human beings believe, and we certainly can’t prove to you that this experience is a dream, but all the sages and mystics throughout all time say it is, and you can’t prove it isn’t! (By the way, there’s no way the others in your Starbucks dream could have convinced the you in the Starbucks dream that it was a dream either.)

2. God is complete, finished, outside of space and time, unchanging.

In the Starbucks dream the entire universe containing the Starbucks and the hour or so duration of the dream experience were entirely created by your subconscious in what we call your mind. (We could, and probably should, call it your imagination, but “mind” seems to be the metaphysical word.) Your subconscious, while it was expressing itself as the dream, wasn’t changing. The hour or two of changing experience took place in your mind, but the dream only took a second or two, and your subconscious wasn’t changing. It was complete to begin with, and outside of, containing, your mind and the space/time continuum of the dream. Similarly, God is eternal, infinite, and Mind is what we call the faculty or function of God in which experience is created. Time, space, and the possibility of change occurs in Mind. God is outside of this space/time continuum, and must be considered as complete, finished, with respect to our time.
Modern physics gives us another indication of this. If we read Stephen Hawkings’ (one of the leading modern physicists and cosmologists) A Brief History of Time, we discover that before the “big bang,” the instant of the creation of the universe some 15 or 16 billion years ago, there was no space or time! Space and time began with the big bang. But there must have been something out of which the big bang came, something not material. There was nothing (no thing) yet, but there was something outside of time, outside of space, outside of matter, an unexpressed potential—sort of like your subconscious before your dream began.
What we call the big bang, the creation of the universe, was the beginning of the material dream in Mind, in which Whatever There Was Before Time experiences Itself in space and time.

3. God is peaceful, harmonious, infinite, omnipresent.

What it’s like “when” and “where” there is no time and space, is inconceivable to beings at our level of awareness, but we can think about using words like peaceful and harmonious, since there is nothing changing, no activity, and we can say infinite in the sense that there are no boundaries or limitations, and we can say omnipresent, everywhere present, since It is all there is, and every place we call a “where” is part of it, whatever “part of” means. It is Consciousness Itself, and It is present everywhere in Mind, like your subconscious is present everywhere in your dream.

Stop Here for a minute or two! Make sure you understand what has been said so far, before you read further.

4. Mind

God expresses and experiences Itself in Mind. Mind is the faculty of Consciousness which makes experiencing possible. Mind adds time and space, because (at least at our level of awareness) experience requires duration and extent. Something which has no extent cannot be experienced. Something that does not last even for an instant cannot be experienced.

We can think of mind in terms of dreams. Our subconscious has a faculty which produces dreams. Notice that we can’t say where the dream is produced, or what the dream is produced “in.” It is a function of our subconsciousness and hence has no location in space and time. But there is the experience of space and time “within” the dream, whatever “within” means. And the “substance” of everything in the dream is subconsciousness itself—imagination—that’s the only “stuff” there is to produce the dream out of.
In the same way Mind is a faculty of Consciousness which permits the experiencing of Itself in space and time.

5. Form

In order to experience Itself God has individualized Itself as Forms in Mind, as which and through which It can experience Itself. God individualizes Itself by forming images (ideas?) in Mind. Form is another word for an image in Mind—so is Individualizaion. Mind is a function of God, and the “substance” of all Forms (what all Forms are made out of) is Mind, so the nature and substance of all Forms is God.
Everything we experience is a form in mind. Forms are never “out there,” although they look that way.  Everything we experience is a formation of and within our mind.
No form is separate from us, different from us. The forms we experience are our mind. Form is Mind and Mind is God and God is Good, so Form is Good.
Form is healthy, harmonious, etc., unless it is obscured by belief.

6. Body

We also hear about spiritual bodies, our real bodies which are not material. I don’t really see a difference between Body, Form and Individualization. We can talk about God Individualizing Itself by embodying Itself as (or in) Form, I suppose…

Stop Here for a minute or two! Make sure you understand what has been said so far, before you read further.

7. Each Individualization of God is all of God.

Your subconscious doesn’t break itself into pieces to form the individualizations of it in your dream. Similarly, Consciousness does not divide Itself when it individualizes Itself. An individualization being all is difficult to understand, but an individualization is not a part of consciousness. In your dream your complete subconscious expresses itself as the complete dream, including each object in the dream, unfolding in time. What we really have is all of Consciousness expressed as all of the space/time continuum, being experienced finitely, in time, by different individualizations which are expressing different attributes to us.
If we go back to the Starbucks dream, each individual or object in the dream does not represent a specific part of the subconscious. All of the subconscious is the source and “substance” of each and every point in the dream, and of each object in the dream. The dream you are experiencing is, in its limited dream five senses, what the dream is expressing, unfolding in dream time.

Stop Here for a minute or two! Make sure you understand what has been said so far, before you read further.

8. Each individualization is complete.

God is complete, and all of God is in each Individualization of God, therefore, since each Individualization is all of God, each individualization is complete. We are, and are experiencing, complete individualizations of God, expressing differing attributes of God, and, since God is as fulfilled as It’s ever going to be, every individualization is also fulfilled..

Stop Here for a minute or two! Make sure you understand what has been said so far, before you read further.

9. Individualizations are experienceable at all levels of awareness.

Each Individualization is completely expressed, and is experienceable at all levels of awareness of consciousness, beginning at the lowest level and progressing upwards to the level of enlightenment, and beyond. Our apparent spiritual growth is our awareness expanding to experience forms more completely. Since we are having a human experience, our individualizations are currently experiencing themselves and others at a material, finite level of awareness, but we and they are also experienceable at infinitely many higher levels of awareness.

Stop Here for a minute or two! Make sure you understand what has been said so far, before you read further.

10. Consciousness is Experience.

Experience and consciousness are the same thing! If we are experiencing something, we only know that because we are conscious of that experience, aware of it. If we are not experiencing something through one of our five senses, or thought, we are not conscious of it. If we are conscious of something, we are only conscious of it because we are having an experiencing of it. If we are not conscious of something, not aware of it, we are not experiencing it.  Consciousness and experience are identical.

Stop Here for a minute or two! Make sure you understand what has been said so far, before you read further.

11. Everything is Harmonious.

If All there is is God—Consciousness, and God is complete, finished, “outside” of space and time, unchanging, and God is peaceful, harmonious, fulfilled, infinite, omnipresent, then each Individualization must be be so too, since each Individualization is all of God. Each Individualization must be peaceful, harmonious, complete, fulfilled, infinite and omnipresent.

Stop Here for a minute or two! Make sure you understand what has been said so far, before you read further.

12. God is Fulfilling Itself

God is individualized as each of us. Each of us is one Individualization of God, one individual Expression of God. God is expressing Its Fulfillment as and in all of Its infinity of Individualizations. God is not just expressing Itself as you, It is expressing Its fulfillment as you, and God fulfilled is Harmony, Love, Bliss…
We can’t say that God is fulfilling Itself, since God is beyond time, but what’s really happening is that you are an Individualization of God that is already fulfilled, and has been eternally, and what’s moving in time is not that fulfillment is happening, but that our awareness of the fulfillment of God that we are is growing as we develop spiritually. What’s changing is our awareness of the fulfillment that we are. We are already a fulfilled expression of God, we’re just becoming more and more aware of it.

Stop Here for a minute or two! Make sure you understand what has been said so far, before you read further.

13. HUman Level of Awareness (hula)

Actually, there are not different levels of consciousness. There is only one Consciousness—God Consciousness! There are not human consciousnesses, or mental consciousnesses or spiritual consciousnesses, but there are different levels of awareness of Consciousness in the different individualizations of God. We are all operating somewhere in a range of awarenesses of Consciousness that perceives infinite indivisible Spirit as finite material objects. What we are seeing in mind is our material sense of the spiritual individualizations of God that comprise the universe. And, we are experiencing them through our material sense of our spiritual body, via the five physical senses, which are the material sense of spiritual senses, and through thought. We can call this the human level of awareness (hula) (sorry about that). Hula is the level of awareness that perceives God as 5 sense holographic images (5holos) in mind. 5holos are finite and material, in space and time. Material sense is chub’s belief that the 5holos are real, material, external to us, and independent of God.

Stop Here for a minute or two! Make sure you understand what has been said so far, before you read further.

14. There is no matter

We’ve heard it said a thousand times that matter is mind (or mind is matter). Now we can see what that means. Matter is just our hula sense of Form, in Mind. It is our sense of the forms that is finite and limited, not the forms being sensed. Actually God is Mind, Mind is Form, and the forms we see are our material sense of Form. When we know this the images are free to be unlimited—matter can be multiplied.

Stop Here for a minute or two! Make sure you understand what has been said so far, before you read further.

15. Experience is a hologram

Mind is like a hologram projector, projecting consciousness rather than a film, as visible forms with sounds, tastes, textures, smells and thoughts added. A hologram is nothing more or less that what is on the film, and the objects in the hologram are made out of light, which is what the hologram projector projects. What we experience in mind is nothing more or less that what is in our consciousness, and the forms we experience in mind are made out of what mind projects—imagination.
When we are in higher consciousness we not only see the form in mind, but are aware of the consciousness of which it is a form, as we could, at the movies, see not only the images on the screen, but the film going through the projector.

Stop Here for a minute or two! Make sure you understand what has been said so far, before you read further.

16. Experience is concepts

Since all there is is God, Spirit, that is what we are experiencing, but we are experiencing it materially, finitely. The Infinity of Consciousness is being translated into into a 5 sense hologram in mind, at a material sense level of awareness, because that’s the level of awareness we are operating at. God is being imagined, formed, into 5 sense images (plus thoughts) in mind.
So what determines what images appear in in the hologram? Our concepts! We can only experience what we can conceive—concepts.

Stop Here for a minute or two! Make sure you understand what has been said so far, before you read further.

17. Beliefs

Actually, since we can have several concepts about the same thing, we are experiencing (forming—imagining) our beliefs,. We are experiencing the finite, material concepts of individualizations of God that we believe in most strongly, believe at a visceral level, not an intellectual level.
In the areas where we do not have a personal belief about something, what we get are the collective human beliefs (chub). Since there is only one Consciousness and one Mind, chub is being continuously broadcast into our mind subliminally, unless we specifically reject it.
If we had no personal beliefs, and refused to accept any of chub’s beliefs, i.e., believed nothing, we would experience ourselves as a material sense of the perfect spiritual beings (Forms) that we really are, as peaceful, harmonious and fulfilled. We would experience ourselves, and everything else, as the perfection of God, at our level or awareness.

Stop Here for a minute or two! Make sure you understand what has been said so far, before you read further.

18. Conditioning

Where do our concepts and beliefs come from? From conditioning and experience. Conditioning comes from parents, teachers, churches, books, television, Madison Ave., Internet, Facebook, Twitter,… Conditioning also comes from repeated experiences, which, in turn, have been determined by our, and other’s, conditioning. And the strength of our beliefs is determined by the depth of our conditioning, either the repetitiveness of it, or the apparent reasonableness of it, or by the depth of the experience. And traumatic experiences are the deepest!

Stop Here for a minute or two! Make sure you understand what has been said so far, before you read further.

19. Collective HUman Belief (CHUB)

The primary conditioner, the primary source of all conditioning, the “devil” itself, the supreme hypnotist, is collective human belief (chub). There is only one mind, and we are all in it, and we are all continuously broadcasting our beliefs into it, and receiving the transmissions of others.
Chub is responsible for the conditioning of all the teachers and other sources of our conditioning mentioned above. It is constantly and continually reconditioning us subconsciously. We are being continuously, subliminally, unconsciously, bombarded by all the beliefs in chub, unless we are consciously correcting them. This is what Mary Baker Eddy meant by “standing porter at the door.”
And, if we have not been specifically conditioned with respect to a certain area, chub is the default that we will believe and see, because that’s what’s being broadcast, until we specifically correct it.
The problem with chub is that it is primarily a material consciousness with a little bit of mental consciousness and zero spiritual consciousness. It believes the objects of its five senses are material objects with real, external existence. It believes in powers other than God. It believes in good and evil. It believes it is separate from God, and that it has to take care of itself, to survive. Chub also believes in change, that things are constantly changing, that things deteriorate over time. And materially they do. Good becomes evil, evil becomes good, lack becomes plenty, plenty becomes lack, health becomes sickness…
But in reality chub has no power. It is merely continuously offering its beliefs to us (Joel calls it temptation). It is our acceptance of it into our beliefs, whether consciously or unconsciously, that has the power, since believing is seeing.

Stop Here for a minute or two! Make sure you understand what has been said so far, before you read further.

20. So that’s what we’re seeing

Good and evil, powers other than God, the need to survive by our own power, everything changing and deteriorating with time…, because that’s what chub is believing and chub is dictating our beliefs as long as we are accepting them, or not consciously rejecting them, and our beliefs are our experience—believing is seeing!

Stop Here for a minute or two! Make sure you understand what has been said so far, before you read further.

21. A Catch-22

Here’s the Catch-22 that keeps us locked into materiality: Not only is believing seeing, seeing is believing. We not only see what we believe, but, thanks to chub, we believe what we see! The only way out of this one is to rise in consciousness.

Stop Here for a minute or two! Make sure you understand what has been said so far, before you read further.

22. Changing Experience

So, if we don’t like what we’re seeing we’ve got to change what we’re believing, not try to change what we’re seeing! The only way to change our experience is to change the content of our consciousness, change what’s being projected into the hologram. We need to stop believing what we are seeing, stop letting chub into our consciousness, and let God into it.
If we had no beliefs, no conditioning at all, no belief in good or evil, no concepts of sick and healthy, abundant and lacking, no beliefs in powers other than God, no chub conditioning, we would still experience a material sense of the spiritual individualizations because we are at a human level of awareness, but they would reflect the nature of God, i.e., harmony, love, perfection…, because they are not being conditioned by our beliefs.

Stop Here for a minute or two! Make sure you understand what has been said so far, before you read further.

So that’s the whole teaching. Now we’ve got some clarifications and further observations…
